Default Roof Bars for 75 Saloon

Hi,

I need to fit some Roof Bars to my 75 Saloon to carry a couple of Kayaks on.

Has anyone fitted the cheaper universal type or is it only the Thule or genuine that really fit/work ?.

Or does anyone by any chance have some complete ready to fit they would sell and post.

Cheers

If you go to ebay, Thule are pretty cheap

My son has some roof bars that he used to put the roof box onto the Rover 75 KV6 I now own. He asked me the other day if I wanted them. I can get in touch with him and ask if he wants to sell them. They are a good set not cheap rubbish. I think he said he might put them up for £70 . Drop me an email if you are interested.

Does anyone know why the Saloon is fitted with 4x fixing points for roof bars but Thule quote (754+7124+1154 part numbers), which is basically generic setup for cars without fixing points.... ?

And I quote

Thule 754 Foot Pack
A Thule 754 foot pack is combined with a vehicle-specific fitting kit to enable the roof bars to be fitted to a car with a normal roof that does not have fixed points or roof rails.

you can use 750 or 754. These do not use the 4 fixing points in the top of the roof. As well as 750 or 754 you will need the fixing kit and this is more specific to a car. The 750/754 is generic. The fixing kit fits to the 750/754 foot.
The fitting kit fixes the roof bars by clamping to the roof inside the door opening. Used Thule for years and they have never damaged the paint or come lose

You can try and fit the E46 fitting kit as that bolts to the roof

I've got the Thule bars are genuine bars were too hard to come by, and too expensive when they did crop up, when I was looking. Think I paid around £80 all in for the 3 Thule parts, about 6 years ago. I've used them several times, roof box for holidays, borrowing a ladder, and collecting the Christmas tree, they never damage the paint work as the feet are big and shaped to the curve of the car, the metal grips on the inside of the door frame only pull against the rubbery part there. The only issue I've found (well my wife mainly), is if you forget they are there, and you walk into them, or stand up to close to the car when getting out, and clout your head on them. She never finds it as funny as I do.

I've found the Thule set on roofracks.co.uk for £169, which doesn't seem bad, but I'll keep an eye out for something second-hand for a bit.
