it would be interesting to know whether those with the extra temp reading are getting better fuel consumption "generally" - there are quite a few extra parameters/better intelligence going on with those later cars?

Would also be interesting to see how it goes by somehow fitting the IAT from the Synergy2 into that part of the intake to see if that improves things or not.
(for those with just the one sensor in the MAF)

Just need to figure out a way that's easily reversable if it doesn't work.

What are your thoughts Ron?

it would be quite an easy thing to make up - i.e. one piece of tube joiner pipe (hopefully with ridge at either end), with the IAT fitted by resin or something, and with a plug connector between Synergy and IAT wiring?? Then you could cut and jubilee clip the existing hose.

But that would only improve the synergy efficiency - it doesnt talk to the ecu...?

I wonder how much the 2004 cars sensor part is, thinking about it.....?

Sorry for my error, I hope it hasn't caused problems.

Dave Lyon is offering to test my Synergy 1 on his BMW 177bhp so I'll be interested in his comments. (I now have oem connectors on all Synergy 1 versions and Synergy 2 in a month or so)

I've just bought a '54 A3 2L tdi sport 140, and am developing a Synergy 2 PD for it.
Results are looking promising and the engine is as sensitive to the maf signal as the BMW one.

The IAT from the Synergy 2 could be extended to fit into the hose closer to the inlet manifold but getting a good pressure resistant seal would be difficult. You could cut the hose and insert a short length of steel, alloy or even copper pipe into which the IAT could be glued.

Alternately, get hold of the IAT and adaptor from 2004>car and connect the Synergy's iat cable to the sensor. (cut off the Synergy sensor and extend the cable.)

I'm not sure what the effect would be on performance or economy. Some one will have to try it...!

Ron - the ECU encoding on the 120d/320d 177BHP models have finally been broken and remaps are now available. They are claiming to get an extra 35BHP and 75nm - i am sure you can do better then this but that's the target to aim for.

Thanks for that info Rich. It looks to be about 20%.

I'm just waiting to hear back from Dave. The dpf may prove a hindrance though.

Yes, it appears that the remapping companies are adjusting the DPF regeneration times within the remaps. This, apart from cracking the encoding, has been one of the major problems.

Of course only time will tell if the DPF survives remapping on these models!

Dave needs to make a dpf bypass (for when warranties start to expire!).
This should work without any mods as the dpf differential pressure sensor will simply never register a clogged filter so the regeneration process won't ever need to happen.
