Sometimes it's the simple things .....
After the 'should be sainted' Marinabrian sorted out the immobiliser issues with my rescue 1.8 Connie, I struggled to get it to run well, it even lacked the power to run up onto ramps to fix the blowing exhaust back box.
It's been sitting in the car park at work, and I had changed spark plugs, coil packs and leads and messed about with the spark plug gaps, cleaned out the idle control valve, etc etc, but no joy, and I was starting to look at changing more expensive things. Yesterday I took the plugs back out, and noticed no's 2 and 4 plugs were sooty, but 1 and 3 looked ok. Whilst looking for some information, I saw a picture of the K series with the engine cover off, showing the plug leads in a different order to mine, it turned out that the garage who had been working on the car before they messed up the immobilser had put the leads on wrongly, and, as it's been about 20 years since I've had a petrol car, I carefully replaced the leads as I found them. A quick swap round of the ignition leads and unsurprisingly the engine started up right away, and now runs like a Swiss watch, hopefully if the weather improves I will get the new rear exhaust section fitted and finish off refitting the interior and then it will be back on the road. (I now have 2 people at work wanting to buy the car, as otherwise it's on pretty good nick now that the rear seals have been fixed and the interior dried and valeted) Derek |

i think putting the leads back the wrong way is a hard thing to do! It's so easy to put them back in the correct order because they will be "shaped” and fall into place if you know what I mean. Stupid mechanic.
