Check engine light

Hi all have the CEL on. Cars a 75 260 and the symptoms are a gearbox that seems to be slipping in the gears (limped it home) is there any Garage s local to Reading anyone can recommend to contact in the first instance.

Is that too far? Peter was trained on the V8 and looks after mine.
