Default Gears getting hard to use....

Ok had the car back since friday and with help of a few people on the forum have nearly completed most of the little jobs left to do.

But went out to night to pop over and see Steve (dizzy) and noticed that the gears started to get vert diffucult to engage. This got worse by the time I got home and was considering pulling over and calling the AA.

The Clucth pedal was very low or seemed to be. (been that long since Ive drove the car I wasnt too sure.

Got home and turned engine off. Tried the gears and they slipped in easily started the car and tried to select gears and they would hardly go in without some brute force. Then thought thet pedal is very low and pulled it back up with my foor and the gears just slipped inr...

So is this a:

1. Clutch bleed

2. New Slave

3. Clutch.....hope not I just cant afford anything else now.

Andy

It is normally a hydraulic problem. Failed seals, fluid loss etc.

So try firstly a bleed.
It might help, but that in itself indicates another problem, and the cure is likely to be shortlived.

Bleed first, see how it goes.
Keep an eye out for any oil leaking from the clutch area, if gears get hard to get but no oil visable, then you have a master cylinder problem.
If you see oil, then it is the slave cylinder.
If you need to change the slave, then I would recommend you also change the master cylinder.

It is possible that the previous owner has used a silicone brake fluid. That was all the rave at one stage. The fluid is much less aggressive towards paint for example.
A different matter with the rubber seals, unfortunately. They started to leak.

Well, this is highly unlikely, I guess, so most likely have a look after you add brake fluid and let us know.

As for the clutch going hard on the shaft ... no, not many chances, unfortunately. That would have started out as being bad and getting better. Not the other way around.

But let us all hope for the easiest and least costly scenario. It costs little to hope.

Mine is doing exactly the same.

Sometimes its fine, sometimes the pedal sinks and the biting point is right on the carpet. I bled it yesterday, absolute pig of a job.

I used a sauce bottle from range, chopped the top off and fed washer pipe in and filled with brake fluid. Made it a bit easier to get too. Something is not right with mine, and eventually Ill get it done, but its only done 20k since it had a whole new system from mr clutch (previous owner)

Good luck
