He's possibly driven with the second one connected, and when the IPK and LSM have updated the mileage reading, it's created the error, as they aren't matched.

I quite often get this "ERR" message showing, In my case it seems to be if I start the engine too quickly before the system has settled down. Mine is ok when I switch off and restart.
There may be a techinical reason for this, that some of the more enlightened amongst us can explain,
