Car tax and MOT expiry

My MOT expires on the 27th, my tax on the last day of May and I was told I couldn't tax it until my MOT done and was valid to cover June 1st. It is now done (passed), but was it always thus?

I thought I remembered it as - if you had a valid MOT on the date you were trying to tax it, that was all that was needed?

Always been that way, you must have an MOT in date at the time the car tax is due.

As Greeners has said...

Your vehicle Tax runs out on 31st May, and is due to start on 1st June. You must have a valid MOT to cover the start date of your new vehicle tax e.g 1st June.

You Tax expires on 27th May, so it will not cover the new start date of the newly purchased road tax.

I had the very same thing happen to me, I couldn't get my head around it to begin with.
