What happened with us, we where given our Cartridges, then one at a time where talked through how to hold the Shotgun and then how to fire it etc. Gun safety was also explained to us.

We then went off in 3 groups and used different Clays - Namely Rabbit (A Clay that whizzes along the floor on its edge) - Pigeon - Which was a Clay fired up in the air and then the Duck (or Skeet shoot) - Which was a Clay fired from the front and behind you.

There was a "Competition" between us al land the winner, the person who hit most clays, was given a Certificate.

At the end of the day, we where then given the opportunity to use .22 Air Rifles and got some target practice in with them

As I said earlier it really is a good experience and a good laugh too.
Only problem with using air rifles especially if scoped, everyone needs to have the scope zero'd in at a given range for each individuals unique eye pattern.

No licence required if the muzzle velocity is under 12ft lbs. but as it is a club should be no problems anyway.

I have been shooting for a few years now and have yet to find an unfriendly participant. Everyone is so nice and welcoming.

Most people are more than happy to lend you their gun and give you advice. Bit like this club actually, apart from the gun bit.

We could look into doing a special Saturday shoot at some point if we got 25 or so interested.

If anyone local wants to just come and have a go one Sunday morning they would be more than welcome. We would lend you a gun and show you what to do. I think it costs about £20 for non-memebrs to come and shoot 50 clays, that includes cost of the cartidges and obviously you would get some tuition and a gun safety talk.

Send me a PM if anyone fancies it. Would be nice to get some more 75s in the carpark

sounds fantastic, we shoot every weekend anyway... What will it cost us for just the clays? (we'll bring our own guns and munitions) will it be skeet or sporting?

It is a good day out

I hadnt used a Shotgun since I was 16 - when I worked on the Farm, it was hilarious the first time I fired one, I ended up on my Backside !!! Some Kick to them if you aren't holding them correctly

Tried it for the first time at a game fair a few years ago, scored a hit on the first one, and missed all the others but great fun.

For those of you who have your own guns, do they have walnut handles by any chance ?

Yes, well thats how it starts off at least, just a walnut stock, but then you see other peoples walnut guns and start wanting to upgrade, walnut trigger, walnut barrel, walnut cartridges etc etc.

Then of course there is this bloke called ShotgunRon who sells you a little box to stick in the stock. Apparently it makes the gun fire quicker.

Never be tempted by the air intake modification though, it involves cutting down the barrel which usually leads to arrest!
