best clean your EGR first and see if you like the result, then read the EGR pro/con threads before you fit a bypass.
pcv insert is easy to do - £13 "oil separat" from BMW (although there may be a revised one now - about £16 apparently) remap is more pricey than synergy but the latter is all about fuel pulse width so could put more stress on high pressure pump in time. But its easily removeable and with the MAFAM part, can enable you to run a more reliable (and considerably cheaper) pierburg MAF. |

You can probably see it without removing the engine cover but I'm not sure you could get to the electrical connector. One trick that I was shown was to carve a way a little of the engine cover so that the MAF sensor can be got at easily. |

I added a Synergy 2 - just used the tuning section at first - instantly I had a far more drivable car - not a rocket, but definitely a vast improvement (I felt that my MAF was working ok as it was only 10k miles old)..but I thought that for the money, why not get a future proof box. I also noticed better economy (remember, no MAF enhancement at this stage!) I then fitted the egr bypass...thought it revved a little more cleanly, but maybe not any faster overall. In the last month I've gone for the official Xpart power upgrade - now that the price has dropped to £199 +vat and fitting... When I drove off...I had the box off....power felt good above 2500 revs - much stronger than before...after a few miles I stopped and turned the Ron box on (by now both tuning and MAF)....OMG!!!!!! It pulled like a train.... Particularly above 2000 revs - easily as fast as my 260 V8 when above 60...!! Economy is unchanged...I still average about 43.5mpg (it's a saloon, manual). I would say that there is only one route for any 116 owner - get the Xpart upgrade and a Synergy and be prepared for an absolute hoot!! I am using the original box ordered for a 116 variant (there are separate pnos) - but I was assured by Ron that it'll be fine to use on a 131...and it is! Sailed through MoT emissions on setting 10...no black smoke...very small amount of deposit on the rear valance after a few weeks (joys of having a pale coloured, diesel fueled car)... I replaced the entire PCV unit with one from the landrover guy http://tinyurl.com/2xf73k (Massey4x4)...didn't fancy getting messy! Chris
