Not Another Parking Sensor Question!
Was pointed to this forum by Les at SMC.
The reversing sensors had failed on the ZTT as all I was getting was the long beep. So after reading loads of threads about what can go wrong, thought that I had covered all the bases. Listened to each sensor for a clicking noise - silence! So replaced all four sensors. Put car in reverse, reversing light comes on, long beep. So replaced the control box, the reason that Les sent me here, engaged reverse, reversing lights go on and now nothing! No long beep, no clicking sensors. Put the original control box back in and get long beep but no clicking. Checked that it was the correct control box and model numbers match! Can anybody help before I go totally mad |

Your problem is almost certainly caused by the wiring loom behind the rear bumper. I had exactly the same on my ZTT.
You will have to remove the bumper, disconnect the loom and check for continuity to each sensor. If yours is like mine was, you will find corrosion in two or three places. Remove the corroded bits and re-connect, making sure your new joints are well protected. It's a tough environment back there! You will find more detailed info in other posts on here. Best of luck, Di. |

Di,
Thanks for the reply. The wiring loom was the one thing that I did not carefully check as it looked OK on a quick examination. What are the areas that you talk about that are prone to corrosion? |

You will probably find that the break is where the cable from the PDC (parking distance controller) splits into 4 black wires (1 for each sensor) under the bumper - at least that is where mine was. Unwrap the insulation tape and check the crimp for corrosion and a broken wire. While you're at it, check all the other wires for continuity with a multimeter.
Have fun, Di. |
