Can I just comment on Comments on Water Intake with MK2 Air Intake Mod.

I have driven over 45,000 miles now with this Mod,
through Heavy Rain, Fast Driving on Wet Roads, Through Fords and Floods
and at no time has any water got through on Checking.
Never had a damp air filter Either.

One time when the Welsh normal flood Roads were a bit "deep"
I even put hose over exhaust up to roof as water was lapping Bottom of doors on this naughty occassion.
The Flood water was coming over bonnet etc as I drove through,
Its not normally that deep
A Few Cars were stranded in the Waters!

Good to hear that you have had no probs in 45,000 miles, John. I suppose I'm being a bit over-cautious with the water thing.

Did you ever think of buying a boat for occasional use

Very funny guys.
Leave our sheep alone.

Often thought of towing a Boat in Winter in Wales.
Near Machynlleth, Pantperthog and Friddgate areas there are often floods with Rail Lines washed away,
Aberystwyth Station is often Closed because of this, but people get use to it.
Replaced by Coaches that struggle down winding Single track Alternative route Roads in places.

getting back on track.....have a look on RoverRons site at the freelander, as whilst it's the same engine it's got a very different air intake,

The pics on this page? http://tuning-diesels.com/TD4/Td4.htm

There is indeed a big difference with the intake. Where does it actually go to on the drivers side of the engine bay - can't see from the pic.

I would assume that it goes into an air box with a filter.....

There was alot of debate about the air intake mods a few months back...there is no doubt that the original set up strangles the motor at high RPM,

but cutting it back into the engine bay will result in warmer/less dense air being sucked in....whereas modifying the intake ala Ron means cooler/more dense air is drawn in from the front of the car, in truth the difference will be neglegable...but surely warmer air will counter the efforts of the intercooler which is designed to cool the air to increase air density?

on mine... opted to make a series of extra holes out of siight on the underside and front sides of the intake using a 16mm router...perfect holes right at the front of the air intake.... more air flow and in the unlikely event of water ingress the holes on the underside act as drain to protect the filter/engine.....but as with JDC i have never had a problem with water ingress or damp filters.... the engine now revs freely to the redline and looks totally stock.
