Default Noisy CDTi - Well inside anyway.......

My recently acquired CDTi Tourer has now had the thick end of £300 spent on it to service the bits the previous owner thought were best ignored.

Runs very sweetly even though it is still on the original MAF.

Of major disappointment is the racket inside the car. For a lux barge this car is a disaster zone. At no point would you be unaware it is diesel powered!

Been squired round in 90's taxis that are more refined - is this right or are you folk more tolerant?

It is a shame as the rest of the car is what I wanted to cart round the new dog.

What sort of noise are we talking of here - it doesn't sound right. Never have I had issue with a 75's diesely-ness (less so than with other cars infact). Has the exhaust gone? Has it had its insulation stripped-out post accident?

Kinda sounds like its led a hard life?

Thats just it the car is mint - and as I say is mechanically spot on. Totally original 54,000 miles etc etc

Sounds perfect except the clatter of the engine is very audible inside. All trim is as it left the factory and all bulkhead seals are original.

So thanks for the 'post accident' guess - very useful LOL.

Guess they are all much the same - have trawled the posts and seen a few similar complaints.

I suppose if you guys upgraded from a prima powered Maestro then this vehicle seems like a Roller.

Ho hum.

I would say that once my car is moving at more than 10 MPH, its hard to say if its a petrol or diesel.

I have had TDi powered VW group cars in the past and have recently driven an old model Passat 130 Pdi, but a high end model with all the kit. They were much noisier than my MG CDTi and particularly on tickover, my mechanic had a 320d until recently and that was similar to my MG for noise.

Ok the MG/75 is not like some of the 5,6 8 cylinder cars which are very smooth, but as a 4 cyl diesel it's pretty good in my opinion.

Have you checked the Flexi Pipe, or has it had a new Flexi badly fitted?

Prima engined Maestro Mr Crowman Sir, I ask you.

I really don't know what you're on about. I have no issue with the diesel 75's refinement at all. One thing that I was keen not to give up on when I was looking for a new motor was diesel refinement - easier said than done. The T0y0t@ Aur1s I drove was so diesel-y it was untrue. The Honda Civic on the other hand was pretty sweet and easily a good match.

So what car have you come from, plus how many other modern diesels have you owned/driven?

If it offends you so much, why did you buy it?

I can hear My Diesel engine,
But it is not obtrusive at all and with the Mods done is noisier than normal ones.
I cannot tell by OP comments what he is comparing it too or if indeed he has a Problem.
The ZT is noisier I believe than the 75 but that is down to sound deadening missing on ZT's.

What mods make it noisier, John?

The main "added" noise mods are those below.
The Air Intake Mod MK2 does make it sound slightly noisier when Cars compared side by Side.
De Cat of course seems to make a Noise Difference too. (not done yet).
If you change to some Non OEM Exhaust parts this also adds more noise.

I think that the Higher mileage Power Plants do seem to have a Noisier Rattle,
but again the Car is still one of the Quietest diesels from the Inside I have driven.

Ensure all the Under Bonnet and Bulkhead sections have the Insulation on them also.
