Default temp gauge

can any one shed a light on this leave car ticking over temp gauge goes to normal heating ok start to drive temp gauge goes down and so does heating and as moved back to scotland need heating

thanks grey ghost how big a job is it any idea and also got any members in scotland just moved back up here need to find a good garage near falkirk

As GG says sounds like the thermostat, what engine is it?

It's a V6.
Remove the accoustic engine cover and look between the Vs at the right hand end. I'm not sure of the procedure but as you will see you may have to do some dismantling to gain access.

Mine was exactly same and was the thermostat. Bought one from Rimmers for under £40. Then looked at the job.....and contacted Lates for a price.
Took lates and Co. around two and a half hours and they do them all the time. Best to do it or get it done though. The stat is stuck and if it changes position it could overheat

i find it easier to remove the inlet manifolds as this gives loads of room (be carefull of the fuel pipes) it is possible to change it with the manifolds on if you have really small hands, i think this way is too awkward though
