cracked alloys ( straights)
I bought 4 straights alloys off a guy who was selling a 260 on ebay.
one went back on eaby and one went to a chap on the 260's, leaving me with two spares for refurbishment. unfortunately upon closer inspection, both the wheels have a crack each on the inner face. more worryingly both wheels show no signs of having had a whack- and both wheels are cracked in the same place. how reliable is a TIG repair- its only to be used as a full size spare. has anyone had experiences of having wheels welded ?

No weld is ever as strong as an original cast. Although if only used for a short journey with very little stress i imagine it being okay. Although ofr the price of straights i would just buy a another.

It Really depends on the depth of the crack to be honest,TIG welds are neater and smaller than MIG but you do not get the penetration of weld, its a bit like gas welding using a filler stick,I would personally not trust a TIG weld on a wheel as it does come under quite a stress, you can MIG weld alli which would be stronger but it would need dressing after welding to make it look neat.
