Default MOT - minimum effort pass

To save me putting loads of bits back on the car, just to take them off again after MOT... Which of the following would lead to a fail?

- Engine knocking noise with no measurable performance issues
(ala this thread http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...19#post2406719)
- No undertray
- No wheel arch liners
- Worn rear hub bearing, even if tires are brand new and not worn

Cheers

Check bearings, if they are allowing movement of the wheel.

most bearings allow movement round and round and round :p

But yea, it rocks a bit. Need to replace, but don't have time before MOT. Just going to be bummed if garage charge me £300 to replace it before they release

They can't refuse to release the car? Even if it fails you can take it away to do the work.

Guess I can just use it as a 'check what's up with my car' mission then SORN the car while I finish up.

Would they actually fail for a bearing then? Had it as an advisory only last time.

Any doubts find a cheap place, a garage 15 miles from me does mots for £30 + £15 for a retest. So far as I know they cannot prevent you taking your car away even if an item is deemed 'dangerous' as was a fuel leak on the Volvo 240, but I likeothers to confirm this.

Sam; you don't need to apply for SORN if the car is taxed and insured.

If the wear is considered excessive, probably. You can check by looking at the on-line MOT testers' manual.

And it can't be taxed unless it has a valid MOT at the time the tax is renewed. Why not just SORN the car for now, then, when it's ready, go get the MOT and tax it? I don't see a point in taxing the car with all the bits missing and faults as you've listed, unless you are using it like that?

Tax is due on Wednesday. And I don't want it SORN ideally as I can't test drive it. Nearing the point of chicken and egg.

A wheel bearing will fail if it's noisy, has play or feels rough. The mot station can't keep your car or fail to release it if it fails
