We're not going to run out of CDTi parts any time soon, and I can get them (in both aftermarket and OEM) from many of the original suppliers to BMW and Rover.
With regards to FirstLine, I stock a few of their parts as some of the kit is actually very good quality. I've had a lot of their drum cylinders / brake shoes in the past (both my old Fiesta and my ZS needed a set) and both were fine.

I've been quite lucky upto now, i needed a brake pedal rubber and managed to get a genuine rover one for £11 from Lookers VW in Preston. Apparently they used to be rover dealers and can still get hold of original parts. Although they are expensive for some things (£79 for a front wheel bearing)

Which ones were they? I notice that at the moment they offer Lemforder and Ocap droplinks. I fitted thier Ocap ones to my CDT and managed at least 30k on them. The set I fitted previously from another local factors for around the same price were shot within 12 months. I also have the Ocap ones(did not notice Lemforder offered when I bought them) fitted to my Wifes (2 years ago) and Father in Laws (one 2 years ago other side last year) I drove my Wifes 75 yesterday and all quiet on the western front. Both the above only do around 3-4k per annum and MOT's are due in near future so will see if any probs then. It really is a minefield though I agree, especially as experience can differ so much. |

This doesn't just apply to car parts. I'm finding that most of the "imported" stuff that I buy lately doesn't last at all. We need to get back to buy it once in my opinion. I've had "quality" imported tools break (not through abuse by the way). A recent example is a simple rubber door stop. They are so flimsy that they wouldn't stop a spider, let alone a door. Anything that is plated these days, loses its plating in no time. I've seen kids bikes and invalid buggies just literally fall apart. Don't get me started.

Now I've been dealing with MG in China for a while and had time to evaluate the parts from over there, I have to say we've had very few problems - most notably, both the aftermarket and genuine drop links have been fantastic.
So far we've sold around 560 aftermarket drop links from the MG dealer, with none returned as faulty. Impressive for a part that's only £12.49 per side. We've not sold as many originals (probably due to the £30 price tag) but have also had no returns - around 330 sold. Definitely worth a look for anyone with repeat issues - both are here: RBM100240 - Drop Links - 75/ZT We've added our OEM-Q line to the aftermarket products we've sold lots of with no or very few returns - this should help you pinpoint parts that'll likely last a very long time.

Mat,
If you can get decent auto brake pedal rubbers I will endorse the previous comment re the so-called "genuine" ones around. They may as well be made of soft chocolate. Original lasted a good 50-60k. It is now an annual replacement just before the MOT. So if you can get decent ones you should have a steady stream of customers! Cheers Mike |

Hello Mike, unfortunately they'll be made by the same people, as we buy those from XPart (had to fit a new one to my ZT-T) - but I can certainly ask if our contacts in China know a rubber moulding company, and can work with us to have something made up of decent quality.
Leave it with me, and I'll see what I can come up with. Mat

Some pattern parts should be called puppet parts, if you want new parts go to Matt plenty of members who buy "used parts" from me recommend him, that says it all.

Thanks Mat,
Sounds like a case for identifying another car with the same (or nearly the same) shape brake pedal. It does not need to be a perfect match as long as the rubber fits. I had not realised these were from X-Part - I almost thought they were forgeries the quality is so poor! Mike |
