Bypassing the heater matrix
Will it be a problem to bypass the heater matrix using a bit of plumbing pipe and jubilee clips. I only need to do this for a trip of 50 miles, before i actually replace the matrix for a new one.
Any help would be great. |

Matrix
I personally do not see a problem, after all the water only circulates through it.
Doubt it will greatly affect engine temp. but you could watch it in case. I'm sure someone else will be along to give you their opinion. Be interesting to see if it does increase engine temp.............if it does perhaps we should all bypass it once cold weather is past ! ! You can monitor engine temp on your OBD (pushing mileage trip button through a sequence. Details if you do a search)

It will make for a quicker warm-up than if a fully operational heater matrix is in circuit. The matrix is effectively a second radiator that's permanently in use. So without this cooler, the engine will heat up faster. It should have negligible impact on the running temperature, because the thermostat and main radiator are then operating.
If your engine is the diesel (?) in standard form, it may not make that much difference. TC Last edited by T-Cut; 19th February 2013 at 09:36.. |
