Default What to do

Hi there

Looking for some advice and views from forum members on what the best thing to do with my car is.

It's a 2005 cdti, car has seen better days and is not in great condition.

It failed its mot in November on the exhaust back box and one front lower suspension arm and bush, with advisory on the other side. I got this work done at a local tyre and exhaust place for £325, both arms, bushes and back box. Thought it was a good price but got messed about a bit with the work.

A few weeks later the car started making a clunking noise from the front near side. I had other commitments at the time so never got a chance to take the car back until last week, car was used very little between times.
After waiting an hour at the garage I was told the arms looked ok and that it may be the strut, they said they were busy and to bring it back next week.

I had a look myself yesterday and found the rear mount for the n/s arm to be loose, one of the bolts was only finger tight, I tightened these as best as I could with an open ended, the ordered an 18mm flex ring key to do job properly.

At this point I was thinking if it drives alright it might do somebody as cheap transport till next mot time, unfortunately as I drove out the driveway the front o/s spring broke. I'm a bit fed up with it now as there always seems to be a problem with this car.

So do I scrap it, sell it for spares or repair, or repair it, not to keen on lying in the snow fitting a new spring, I fitted new struts about 18 months ago and spent 2 days drilling out sheared bolts, don't really want to do that again.

With hindsight I think I should have sold it for spares when it failed its mot.

Sorry for the long post

Thanks in advance

Owen

Owen,

Sounds like it could be worth contacting one of the traders, or another trustworthy garage to get them to carry out the work required.
However, rather than scrapping it, I'd recommend selling it on here, since you're a subscribed user.

Good luck, and let us know what you decide.

Cossie Dunc is your local chap, and I'm sure he'll get it sorted for you.
Great guy, and really well priced too.

Thanks guys

Forgot to say, the car is now surplus to requirements as I bought scooterchicks tourer.

considering the price you can pick up a good 75 for, I think there may be too much work needed to bring it up to a good standard. The car has quite a few minor faults, I also think it may have been accident damaged and repaired before I bought it( 5 years ago)

I'll have a think about it, might be best for spares

Owen

P.S don't think I'd make a very good salesman

Well why not list it in the members for sale section with a price that reflects the work that needs doing?

See what you get offered and if no one wants it, then maybe the decision will be made for you

May be worth a try.
