Default London Emissions Zone 2021

Hi folks. Anyone else in London pondering what to do with their lovely well maintained Rover 75 or ZT after October 2021? Within the North Circular (and South Circular) it will be £12.50 a day to use your jam-jar. That is over £4.5k a year if you use it every day. I use it nearly every day. Mine's a CDi Con SE Tourer and it seems there is no LPG coversion or retrofit available to make it Euro 6 compliant.

Flog it and buy a new Skoda Superb Tourer? I can't afford a BMW 3 Series which seems to be the only thing with anything like a wood/chrome/leather interior and a proper round clock.

?

The mayor - most hated man in our road. I will be selling my V6 and not for silly money. We will have to get a more economical and environmental complaint car, might get a Lexus hybrid or similar.

Such a shame to hear that Phil, but perfectly understandable. Must be very frustrating, to put it mildly.

Its a blue coller (working class) tax , the rich/well off have a choice of using their petrol/diesel car or buying the latest eco-friendly alternative . They have the cash to do both if they want, those that cant afford that will have a choice of walking or catching a bus thats if they can pay the increased fares . How long will it be before that sort of thinking spreads from London to the rest of the UK ? Its nothing more than a witch hunt and the motorist is being blamed for contributing to the bull$hit lie that is global warming , the biggest conspiracy that governments are lining their pockets with.

Blue collar, (working class) tax, what nonsense!

The terms "blue collar" and "white collar" are occupational classifications that distinguish workers who perform manual labour from workers who perform professional jobs. Historically, blue-collar workers wore uniforms, usually blue, and worked in trade occupations. White-collar workers typically wore white shirts, and worked in office settings. Other aspects that distinguish blue-collar and white-collar workers include earnings and education level, i.e. white collar worker better educated and paid more. Today that is not necessarily the case as many "white collar" workers earn less than some "blue collar" workers

So they all pay tax and in my experience higher earners, ( white or blue collar) have more outgoings e.g. larger mortgages, more expensive cars, possibly school fees. So you can't say one type of worker worker may have more disposable income and be more able to pay than any other.

People who live in London should be excluded from these charges simply because they have no choice. I mean, if I choose to drive into London in my CDTi I would expect to pay, it would be my choice! But to force someone into selling their car is WRONG imho

Thank you very much for the history lession, now for a maths lession! I used the term white and blue collar perhaps i should have said RICH and POOR . We all have to live and we can only live as far as our money can go .A poor family have little or no expendable cash so when the Mayor says that the car they have is going to cost them more to use they cant afford the extra tax and they cant afford a cleaner greener vehicle. So what are their options ? Money is stretched as far as they can go , they cant cut back on their out goings and they cant afford a social life so they cant cut back on that either . So the only option is to sell the car . Now this is the rich side ( are you following me so far ?) . They have a larger mortgage and more expensive cars and expendable cash . If they havent got expendable cash there are a few things that they can do . they can start with cutting down on meals out , not so many visits to the golf course , move to a smaller house or even out of London . But none of that will happen because they will be able to pay the increased tax or get a hybrid just for the novelty . Where i come from WHITE = RICH and BLUE = poor . And what the NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- hell do you mean by white collar workers are better educated !!!!! Having money does not make you intelligent it makes you fortunate . By the sound of it you drive a hybrid .

Sorry, Outlaw, but 90%+ of scientific opinion is now of the opinion, that whatever stage of the natural climate cycle we are in, global warming is being exacerbated by the burning of fossil fuels. But you are right that if the government were serious about doing something, they would be providing better incentives and investment to make greener transport more affordable for more of us. Where I live, out in the sticks, I can only afford the old-tech diesels that most people are ditching. Second-hand electric cars are still too expensive, don't have the range I need, and there are no public transport alternatives, and unlike most of our European neighbours, for those living in metropolitan zones, public transport is neither cheap, nor reliable.

When will you sell? I was thinking keep the 75 until end of 2020 then flogging it to a carrot cruncher.
