Leaks on plastic oil tanks can also be repaired as a temporary measure by rubbing a block of soap into the crack! Would not suggest it with petrol tank other than a get you home job.

The chemical reaction sets the soap solid .This has been used on numerous occasions over a 40 years period and has been 100% successful
