Default Tank Strap

It appears that the scraping noise that started on my way to work today is related to the drivers side of the tank strap giving up and the tank grounding out occasionally. I’ve ordered a new strap this morning and the car will be ok in the car park for a couple of days but I need to get it home, which is about 40 miles away, to fit the strap. Anybody managed to temporally secure the tank in such circumstances, if so, what did you secure the temporary strap / rope to?

Builders merchants supply predrilled flat bar for strapping joists together. If you can get the old bolts out, you may be able to cobble up a temporary strap.

Have also seen it used as a permanent fix!

would a decent string such as sisal be of use? Could tie between the strap fixings and sisal is very very strong.

Used it to support an snapped exhaust and then a trip to the dealer.

Thanks for the suggestions. The cars now home, I managed to use a series of strong luggage straps secured to the subframe and the rear cross brace to support the tank, it didn’t appear to move at all, but not a journey I really want to repeat.

The filler neck hose will have helped there.
