Default Fuel Tank strap/s

I've just noticed Matt's new tank strap offer and was considering buying one ready for next year's MOT. I thought that I would modify a new one so that it could be fitted in two halves, by cutting the link strap and welding a countersunk and drilled strip to the end and drilling a hole in the other strap, to take a countersunk or bolt and nut, to link them. This should make removing the old and refitting the new strap easier (tank can stay supported in position during the "two halves" process).
Any thoughts from folks who have changed the straps appreciated.
Mike

Posted that method a while back, I think it's a great idea, cut the tunnel part off, fit a straight piece across in its place. As you say, easier to fit and remove
