Default Before removing the battery.

Before disconnecting the battery my handbook refers me to disarm the alarm.
How is this done.
Is there a switch somewhere ?
Sorry for the dumb ass question.
Kev.

I have removed my battery loads of times without disarming the alarm.
In fact, taking the battery out automatically disarms it.

I would imagine it would only be an issue if the car has a battery backup alarm sounder, which was an optional extra.

All That it means is that do not take the battery off/ disconnect with the alarm set.i.e activated. No secret switches or anything else involved.

I suspect that just opening your car with the fob , rather than unlocking with the key , disables the alarm
This is as opposed to someone stealing your battery , who will probably not have a fob !

The Handbook is ambiguous IMO. It makes no reference to the which version of the alarm system may be fitted and makes no comment on how to do it. Indeed, how could you access the bonnet release lever without the alarm being off?

I sometimes find the alarm sounds when I refit a battery to an otherwise dead 75. A quick turn on/off of the ignition silences it.
But to answer the question, you can remover the battery without upsetting any of the electronics, in my experience.

OK, this is how I messed up.
I opened up my car using my key FOB, unlocked the bonnet, removed the battery cover, checked batt charge level and decided to give the batt an overnight charge.
Disconnected the poss terminal from the batt and connected the charger for a 24 hr plus low rate charge leaving the battery in situ.
Half closed the bonnet on the charger, covered the car over with the car cover and plugged in to my outside power source.
Next day lifted the half closed bonnet, shut off elec power supply and removed the charger. As soon as I reconnected the + terminal to the battery
The horn blew the fear of God out of me.
Then it stopped.
Referred to the handbook. _
and read "disarm the alarm before removing the battery".
Still not sure why I got a blast off the horn.
P.S. should I have disconnected the neg terminal too.
Kev.

The negative should always be the first disconnected and last re-connected. To disconnect the battery and still leave it in the car, just disconnect the negative terminal and make sure it can't accidentally touch the negative battery post while it is off.

I said always, but positive ground (earth) systems are opposite. Not many of those or 6 volt left, though.

Cheers,
Glenn
