Simple as long as you have a 4 jaw Chuck... you are just face turning flat surfaces...

Did it in my teens, to trim copper square bar down for but welder jaws, when the shaper was kaput.

Did it when I was an apprentice nearly 50 years ago! Time consuming, fiddly and wasteful exercise tbh.

well I was impressed and learnt something. It was not until the guy started doing it, did I cotton on on to how he would achieve a cube.

Quicker than a hacksaw n file, and I must have been a better apprentice than you, and I had two chuck keys NEH NEH .

Most students who did metalwork at school will have done this.

Those were the days - I still remember the smell of the white lubricant/cutting fluid for the lathes.

wish I could have one of those big lathes in my garage.
I've been really pleased with some of the things I'm made at home. I know they are rough but the satisfaction of making something that works is brilliant.
