It will probably damage the pins in the diagnostic socket.
Save your £30 and have the car on a T4 when you need it. |

Could be, but I cannot see any details on it. Can you post the make and model?

Thanks Rich & Harry
It looks as if it says 'Auto Reader', but can't see anything else, sorry. The original price was £79.99, with 264 sold. Point taken Rich, the only trouble buried away down hear on the South Coast it would cost me more than £30 in fuel to get anywhere near a T4 Sorry about wasted post trimani (Alf) Last edited by trimani; 28th February 2015 at 16:33.. |

Don't readers only work with OBD2?

Modern ones yes, but I think Alf's car will be an OBD2 anyway, will it not?
Damaging the plug is a bit of a red herring, it will either work or not work. I've done a search and I just cannot find a match for it. Generally, they all work with the basics - reading codes, allowing codes to be cleared and some can read the live running data and display it.

They are all generic, that is the whole idea of OBD2, that you can use a generic scanner.
I have always had diagnostics available to me since the beginning of car diagnostics and the start was LED's flashing a series of codes, using homemade readers. They can be invaluable, as part of a regular service routine. I wouldn't be without one.
