How far up the condom?
calm yourselves, not that condom!
If there is clutch fluid in the clutch master cylinder and it goes up to the top of the 4 "corners" of the condom but not up the "45 degree" slope, have I enough fluid? Also how much fluid in total does the master, slave and hydraulic lines take? 500ml? macafee2 |

If you fill it to the top then insert the seal ( watch out for the overflow) you have the correct amount.
As for the total amount. That's a sort of 'suck it and see' question. Keep going till you can't get any more in. ___ |

but in my opinion enough fluid is there to work the clutch so perhaps I don't have a leak. Hoping for confirmation. macafee2 |

Check the condition of the fluid in the reservoir. It may be contaminated with rubber from the seals if they have been worn. The fluid should be clean. The condoms are fitted when new and the cylinders filled with fluid so that they are "plug and play" as it were. Once removed, the condoms, in my opinion, are just a nuisance. I suppose that they seal the fluid from the air but hey-ho???

Rightly or wrongly I nipped the end off the "Condom" and then filled with fluid to the top and replaced the cap.

Oooops---Wrongly because the fluid is hygroscopic and loves to absorb moisture from the air, not that's there's much to rust in the system.------or to boil the moisture.---

You could take the condom out fill up then put cling film over and screw the top back on.

Indeed, But I thought the top of the "Condom" formed the seal as it sits on the edge of the reservoir.

It both seals the fluid from the air and allows for rising and falling fluid levels as the clutch is used, so cutting holes in it or using clingfilm isn't the answer.
Ian let's have a meet up as you suggested in your other thread. If you had a leaking slave cylinder eventually the fluid would run out, and as you have a sinking pedal with fluid still in the reservoir either air is getting in somewhere or there is a fault with the master cylinder. You can always have a borrow of the GhettoTech clutch fluid level indicator if you are worried about it dropping. |
