CDTi non start - solved (again). All diesels owners should take a look really.
so, as some of you may remember I posted a month or so back about a problem whereby the car didnt start, but it would run with easy start.
The problem then vanished, then came back, etc, etc Well, on Saturday, I went to start the car and it wouldn't start or run with easy start. Once again, the seal in the HP control regulator valve had been shot away. This is the second time in 63k miles (112k on the clock now). These 63k have all been with Rons Synergy and I'd like to see if I have covered the highest mileage with a Synergy fitted. The seal has gone twice in the last 10 months (first time in January at 75k miles). Most redeeming feature now is that I am not doing 1000 miles a week, so hopefully the car will run for a good few years now!!!! |

Hi,
The HP pump is located on the front left hand side (looking in the engine bay) below the inlet tracts. The regulator sits to the right and up a little bit and keeps the pressure regulated to 660bar (I think). If the seal deteriorates or blows through the HP pump can't be regulated and fuel will not get through to the car. Now, I don't know if this is mechanically biased or if an electronic fail safe stops the car (as it would start with easystart unless the seal was really really bad). If the car does not start, no fault codes are logged (which leads me to think its mechanically impossible for the fuel to get through), and the pressure from the HP pump will have to be checked. |

Hi MGORACLE,
I read your post with great interest, but are you suggesting that the HP control regulator seals are damaged by a Synergy or similar TUB unit some how? I am concerned if this were so, what setting are you running at? Sorry to sound worried. |

I have now done 62000 miles with a remap and Ron's synergy and to date have had no problems caused by it I am pleased to say.
Run on settings 7 to 10. or 5 when plodding around. |

Accordingly, the new M47 range (in the BMW Line which sees upto 163bhp) uses a new model HP pump (fittings are the same) with a better seal in the regulator which is why I am wondering. |

I fitted my Synergy at 28000 miles last September.
Now have 48000 on the clock with no problems. I have the Pierburg MAF and usually use setting 6, also have the aluminium flexi pipe in place of the standard air intake. I'll monitor things though, and tempting fate no problems so far. |
