Default Too much Smoke

Oh dear, after flying through the previous 5...or 6 MOTs, my car failed today. It failed on corroded front brake pipes, which I sort of expected......but also on emissions. The car has a smoking problem just like its owner!
The garage owner, (nice bloke), suggested it just needed a service. I've decided to let them do the work, I don't fancy struggling under the car in this heat when they can clean up the pipes for £40 and I thought I'd let them do the service at the same time.
I'm wondering if I should disconnect the Synergy 2 next time around? Also, is there a setting on the Synergy that would be best for the emissions test? The car has done about 88K miles now IIRC and it appears to be on the original MAF unit. Do they last this long and could this be an issue?

TIA, Drew.

Disconnect the synergy, and drive to the MOT station at 60MPH in third.

That should do the trick

From what he was saying, I think the MOT bloke has already tried that...or something similar

My Synergy also caused an advisory for it being rather smoky - but just under the limit (by a whisker!).
Once removed and the 160 map loaded instead, a clean pass with much less smoke.

On the way back from Gretna yesterday I floored our car coming onto the M6 and it was like Chernobyl behind us Really thick black smoke, so she will be getting serviced next week and hopefully that will cure it
