Runs continuously.
The very first time i switched on after fixing it did stop and start every 15 seconds.
About 2 or 3 times.
I turned it off and restarted then it runs continuously but only when demist is pressed

I just found this on another thread.

For 2 speed motors IIRC the ECU energises SLOW speed for a larger temp span.
For example in the diesel engine:

From 100 Deg C to 111 Deg C = Slow Speed
From 112 Deg C to 119 Deg C = High Speed

I was used to the fan starting at around 97 when I had the 3 speed.

So did another test and fan kicked in at 105-106, and stopped when it dropped to 102.
I had been hitting demist at exactly 105.
So it seems to be fine, hoping I’m not speaking too soon!

As it seems a stronger fan the temperatures drops quickly, stops at 102, yet after its stopped continues to drop to 97.

Gold resistor just arrived, one day after putting everything back together!
Should I wait till the silver perishes or disassemble again and install the gold?

HI Joe.
You can fit the gold resistor while the fan is still on the car, you will have to remove the front bumper, then the crash bar, 4bolts and 1 nut either side of the crash bar.

You then disconnect the wiring from the main loom in the wheel arch, cut the wire on the silver resistor and pull through the black lead wire one at a time, strip & crimp, or solder, remember to add some heat shrink over the joint.

Once to have the wires connected pass the gold resistor back through the fan blade and screw back into place on the two tags the silver resistor was connected to.

Gold resistor fitting with bumper removed.

Joe,

Can you change to using the instrument pack diagnostics to monitor the coolant temperature please. I'd like to check that your Hans system isn't giving you high readings.

Test done both read outs show exactly the same temperature.
Still kicks in at 105, turns off at 101-102, drops to 97.
I know everyone says these fans are loud, but this one is Very loud, in a powerful way.
Any possibility high speed only is starting????

Thanks for repeating the test using the instrument pack diagnostics Joe. Unfortunately those results don't make sense. They correspond approximately with the medium speed only of a 3 speed system.

You say "complete" Joe. Can you confirm that what you bought included the control box? What is printed on the control box cover? Did you buy it from a seller based in Australia?

Yes, included control box, motor, fan blades, shroud , from a Rover 75 that was been wrecked in Melbourne.
Has a silver resistor on it.

I cannot recall what was printed the control box cover, i'll have a look when putting on the Gold resistor.

I read also on Google that Volvo fans also come on at 105

I thought it starting at 105 was strange, but i thought maybe thats what later fans did?

There where some marking on the back of the fan/shroud, from a highlighter pen, that did not appear to have been done in the factory, almost pointing "this goes here, that goes there" re-alignment note almost??

Again i'll only recall when i disassemble.

What going on with my fan??
