At the beginning of the clip, the phone was displaying "Activate iPhone" so it seems it was just out of the box. Also, the phone display was in English and the keyboard was in QWERTY mode, so it was not intended for the French market (usually all phones sold in France are set to French language when they are taken out of the box). At the end of the clip, the iPhone seems displaying all its usual operating icons. I could not see any operator logo displayed, and no phone call was done to prove anything. So this leaves some answers pending IMHO

I have studied this clip and a couple of others on YouTube and it would seem the key to unblocking the phone is connecting to a website (no doubt illegal) that suplies the unblocking sequence to the phone itself. I would suspect these websites will be closed down as quick as they appear but it does appear to unlock the phone for any network useage - as seen in another clip on YouTube.

There are various key combinations required though but it is seemingly straightforward enough to unblock an iPhone to any network.

The Unlocking isn't the main problem I believe.
Its when you update, auto Download certain things, It basically Stops it working Completely.
Its a bit more involved getting around that bit.
Apple could save all this hassle just by releasing it for any major network?

I wonder what will happen in the new year then. I rather suspect that at the 6-month period we may start seeing the iPhone on other networks. Just my prediction....

I don't have (nor do I wish to have) any hack or unlocking ambitions for mine; BUT I've just looked at the Carrier Settings and it has listed Orange, T-mobile UK and vodafone UK as alternative networks.

I've not tried selecting any of them yet...

Not sure on this but at a guess, basic phone functions should be available from any provider. Whereas all the tricky internet stuff is only through 02.

I'll see if I can get some confirmation on my thoughts.
