Default Old Chesnut - Windscreen Wipers

Hi Folks

MOT due again soon. Every year I change my Wipers before test. Last year still had an advisory with new blades.

So what's the best I can fit, wouldn't mind if they lasted more than a year either

I bought some cheap Tesco wipers as a stop gap and they are still working brilliantly. 22" and cost around £3 each. Well worth a test.

trimani, blimey you either do loads of miles with your wipers on or it never stops raining where you are, I thought it rained a lot here in Wilmslow!!. Seriously I buy the cheapest I can, usually Autocare, about £3 a pop, they are on my 75 and the wifes' and we get a couple of years at least out of them. I don't think it's worth spending silly money on wipers because they all tear when the screens frozen and your in a rush to get away and don't wait till the ice has thawed enough!!. That's my advice anyway mate, I have compared the blades from the likes of Champion and Bosch (and prices) to the Autocare ones and the only drop in quality is the metal frame part does rust quicker on the cheap ones. But if like me you keep your car cleaned and polished they should last just as long.

I have got those as well. I have had them on about a year and seem very good for the price.

I bought a pair of the Aero flat blade ones from ebay as recommended on here last September (not sure if they are the same ones as these), and I had a curious problem with them - they quickly got covered by a kind of pale blotchy mould. Anyone else had this problem?

suzublu, Dorset Bob, must admit they do seem great value and postage included!!. Not much metal showing in their construction either so not much to rust, bargain.

I fitted these a few months ago, and they're a vast improvement on whatever was fitted before - couldn't believe the difference. No idea how long they'll last of course, but at only a few quid, maybe change them every few months anyway!

My last two cars were M3's, and I drove them - errr - a little faster than my current tractor, so visibility was quite important. I experimented with all kinds, including expensive types, and none of them outperformed a cheap set something like those above.

The genuine BMW (Bosch) ones were among the worst

Same here but I'm very lucky if they a last a year (15k miles) Also they don't conform to the screen very well when it's below freezing. I've got some of the hybrid type on the way (when I pick them up from a mate) that are supposed to be the best of both the modern flat and the old style cantilever design, I'll report back once I've got them on and tested.
