Default not the reply i expected

In my own time I do a bit extra for work. I don't ask for overtime, I just do it. I have even taken on work that's nowt to do with me as no-one else is doing it and it's wasting peoples time

last night I got a phone call from my best mates wife, he is back in hospital and he was not expected to leave and so she should gather the family.

I asked my manager if I could leave 2 1/2 hours early today to travel to see him.

His reply "How are you going to make the time up"

Later today the team leader tells me there is a problem with some automation I did some time ago in my own time.
The urge this evening to look into the problem and try to resolve it has been strong. Now I'm tired the urge has died, looks like the problems going to remain.

As for visiting. Looks like tomorrow is going to be a long day, 400 miles.

Perfect example of a manager who has no idea how to manage people.

Obviously a Manager who thinks he is there to cope as opposed to manage.

I do hope that things get easier for you and your mate, and his family.

Brownie points don't have to be recognized by anybody but yourself, well done.

Companies remember when you make a mistake, but forget the other 99% when your performance is satisfactory or above. 😑

My wife worked in our local school - just three hours a day which suited her fine initially but she often worked longer hours unpaid - over the designated 3/day - then as our boys grew up she had more time available and applied for the another job that come up in the same school in the Library for a further 2 hours a day.

She was told that she was probably the best candidate for the job but they would not give it to her as they wanted someone else who would also work more than the designated hours.

"We will get more unpaid hours out of two part time employees than one"

So my wife worked strictly to her time paid from then on.

They didn't like it but nothing they could do.

The school had a succession of Library assistants - non of whom was happy to work the unpaid hours and so they left.

So it is just as likely that State employers shaft their employees this way as Private employers.

They obviously have no appreciation of your extra work so---------------------------------DON'T give them any more free work to be unappreciative of.

I always found "will you" produced better results than "you will"! To get the best out of people needs a bit of give and take, management by bullying only puts people's back up but it seems to be the norm now.
