Why does Santa keep crashing into those baubles? What a plonker.

More baubles:

Thanks Steve. The dolly is two Duratool D00234 joined together by some lengths of 90mm x 20mm fencing timber. In subframe mode is has three lengths side by side and in exhaust mode it has one much longer length. Both modes have different packing timbers added on top to level the load and/or raise it - e.g. for the exhaust I used a block of 150mm x 100mm garden sleeper on each dolly (screwed on with 150mm as the vertical). This brings the exhaust pipe height to 11 inches off the ground - it'll just clear the spare wheel well and all the subframe & rollbar gubbins at this height.

Yes, hopefully all those coats of paint will stave off the rust bug. I'll put the system back on the car as soon the paint's had a day or two to cure.

I also saw Edd using those hanger tools - they looked good and I meant to buy a pair, but then I forgot so I just cut the black rubbers off. The red ones at the front came off relatively easily by hand - I think they've actually stretched.

Re your pic size - the 2nd pic in post 31 is 1407 pixels on the longest side. A good size for the forum is 800 or 900 on the longest side. If you're using Windows you can use the resize tool in Paint (Start>All Programs>Accessories folder>launch Paint). Click Resize button on the toolbar and select Pixels in the dialog box, like this:

Change 1407 in the horizontal box to 800. Now it's 800 wide, just save it and upload to your gallery, open it in gallery, copy it and paste to post 31.

Question

How on earth did you get the rubbers off with those Neilsen tools? I've bought exactly the same pair (Neilsen CT1759) and they don't even begin to shift the new the back box rubbers I put on (the seriously hefty WCS100212). The blades on the Neilsen tools are both 12-13mm wide at the widest point. They're designed for ring-type rubbers, not the solid kind we've got on our cars.

Left to right below: old cat red WCS105390 / new back box black WCS100212 / cheapie fleabay black.

Same again but lying flat.

Here are the WCS100212s on the car's hangers, with a Bosal carrier clamp in the other pair of holes. I can't get the rubbers off any of the 4 prongs using the Nielsens - the 'arrowhead' tips on the prongs are just too wide and the rubber is too solid for the tools to have any effect.

Am I missing a trick?

(Btw, you can't see it in the pic but there's a ton of clear silicone grease on those prongs).

I'm trying to avoid cutting the damned things off and having to chuck another £23 away on a second new pair.

Forgot to say - the red rubbers are jelly-like compared to the black ones. The Neilsens would get the red ones off.

Also had problems removing the rubber hangers, eventually got fed-up and found a pair of mole grips and reduced the outer stop by gradual to and fro grinding motion removing metal until they were only just proud. With everything bolted together it's not as if they are going anywhere.

Regards

Yes, I did think of grinding the arrowheads down with a Dremel but decided that's the lesser of two evils.

There's quite a lot of metal to grind off on the two car prongs - the Bosal ones are narrower:

The black ones (WCS100212) came from Rimmers in December. The picture of them on the car was taken yesterday (by me).
