Thanks David. I did the battery reset thing as well, and I replaced my connectors under the seat with different ones, but I wasn't as lucky as you. In my case the light didn't go off

I just got my car back from the garage to do the belts on my K-series. I asked them to check my airbag warning light. A few hours after I left my car there this morning, they called me up to say they found the problem. The connector under my seat was loose. (the same connectors I checked yesterday myself and the day before that). When I told him on the phone I was surprised, he said "those blue things get loose every now and then". I replied "But I don't have those anymore, I replaced them with other connectors I got from Conrad". It got very quiet on the other side for a minute and then he said "Yes, that's what I mean. We fixed it now for you. No worries." When I picked up the car, I checked under the seat, and nothing was changed. It was exactly the way I left it yesterday. When I got home I checked the dashcam because I thought his comment to be very weird on the phone. In the video you can hear somebody talking who is sitting in the drivers seat. At one point he says (translated from Dutch): "Don't know, can't find it. Might as well just turn it off. That'll make the light go away". I'm very worried now that I done something weird that turns the light in the IPK off, without solving the problem. If my warning light simply doesn't work anymore, I might not know when the airbag isn't functioning properly. If I get into an accident, the airbags might not work!

You mean the same symbol as the airbag warning light?
Yes it does. It goes on for a few seconds, just as a few other lights on the screen. Then they all go off again. I read somewhere that it is possible to make a certain warning not display itself on the screen??

Seeing as I also have the mechanic speeding during the test drive, and turning up the radio so loud that the speakers are making a horrible disformed noise, I have lost faith in their work.
And this garage is supposed to be THE Rover specialist in the Netherlands... I guess quality service is very hard to find these days.

I hope you are right Vitesse.
The problem I have to think this positive is that they claim to have done something, which they clearly didn't do. How they managed to get the airbag light to dissapear from the IPK is a riddle to me. Nothing leads to the assumption that anything has been done to the plugs they claim to have replaced. Maybe I should just unplug the passenger seat and see if the warning light appears. If correct, the light should come on when I unplug one of the seats.

By all means go ahead and disconnect any part of the SRS system and then the airbag icon on the IPK should stay on, meaning it has failed the self-test.
I recently tried this myself when I lent an airbag sensor from my donor to a member in need - he passed his yearly test and sent me another one. I tried the SRS by running the engine first with the side sensor missing - it stayed on. I fitted the replacement sensor and the light then went out. Not much fun if you believe you are being cheated, I can understand your need for peace of mind. Regards |
