I agree with the first part but not the second. No evidence has been produced to confirm officially that Alert will be affected. At the moment it appears to be that someone has read about Freeway and Oracle and made an unproven assumption that it also applies to Alert.

Hi

aren't Freeway and Alert one and the same?

What makes you think that? Freeway was a subscription service, Alert isn't.

I didn't know Freeway was a subscription service,I thought perhaps it was their terminology for Alert.

What subscription service did Freeway provide?

Perhaps you should email TrafficMaster as Colin has done and see what they say to you.

the alert system in our cars is a subscription service, the cost is included in the purchase price. you buy a licience so to speak. the alert system is broadcast from the blue pole transmitters by the side of the road, according to the nice lady at traffic master i spoke to as i left work this evening this is the system that is being turned off.

Colin,

"The Trafficmaster that we have in our cars" could be one of three systems: Alert, TMC or SmartNav. The e-mail you posted mentions none of these, instead it refers to a fourth system! So sorry, that's not clear evidence.

Richard,

O.K. I understand what you're saying, but I always regard a "subscription" as a regular amount of money which I have to pay to avoid a service being withdrawn. Alert does not require that.

I know about the blue pole transmitters too. These must also feed Trafficmaster H.Q. with data for their other services. How is the company going to retain this if they turn them off I wonder?

If the nice lady was telling the story accurately, why is there no official confirmation to be seen?

You may be right, but it smacks of hearsay to me.

Simon.

Sorry Tony, I didn't mean to ignore you. I was hoping that someone would come up with proof that I'm barking up the wrong tree, but as they haven't maybe I will.
