Default Paint matching grumble

I've been touching in some slight bumper damage and some small rust spots on my Platinum Gold 2005 75.

However I'm having trouble with the paint provided MCN. It's more like Silver and doesn't come even close.

First order from Paints4U (think that's right) just silver oh well.

Second order Rimmers Oow expensive. Oh this is silver again!!!

They suggested they had sold loads with no complaints and to make sure I mixed it well. (shook the spray bottle)

They sent more "as a courtesy" Silver again, not even close.

Now I know the best way forward is to go to a place and have some mixed to match.

However can I expect a refund from the suppliers who are sending a paint that clearly isn't even a close match?

I've got the code right MCN.

Thoughts please.................

I might be talking through my rear end here but, does it not need a clear coat applying once dry? This may bring the colour out in the paint to a match of the original

As I said, I may be talking rubbish, just a thought

Sure about the colour

& it's had a clear coat.

If I have to guess the paint manufacturers have got the code wrong or new paint regs prevent original ingredients being used and modern equivalents not working.

Here's some pics

Just a thought, but have you tried it on a bit that has never been exposed to sunlight?

I had a similar thing many years ago with a Capri, it was Oyster Gold and had never been painted but when the wing was repaired after an accident it looked silver. The body shop tried every shade they had listed and in the end they made there own up to match.

My car in X Power grey has 3 shades and there is big difference between the light and the dark version.

Might be worth seeing if there are some other shade options.

I have found the same with Copperleaf Red CDX . There are 3 versions as the supplier has changed over time , and they are noticeably different
My local paint supplier brings out the swatches and asks which version of CDX do I have ......
I have been told that whilst the mix proportions are constant , the ingredients themselves can vary !

it doesn't have to be painted onto a particular base coat colour does it? My typhoon has to be sprayed on a black base coat.

Now that's interesting. I bought some expensive touch-up from Rimmers and to be honest it looks more like damson than copperleaf. Perhaps your comment above explains why!
