Probably worth pointing out that these diesel issues are certainly not specific to just the ZT.

Having had a couple of diesels in the past, including a 2006 VAG GT TDI - purchased because of a previous 40 mile round trip for work - I didn't save much money from having the diesel because of related repair costs on the derv.

Obviously that won't be the case for everyone. But when i much prefer the noise and the feel of a turbo'd or V6 petrol engine it made little sense for me to look for a diesel again.

I got mine as was cheaper to tax than my last diesel, plus I wanted something a bit bigger as we travel to Wales alot so wanted something that was good on fuel and comfy on long journeys

A diesel is the safest option here in the west of Ireland due to the amount of petrol stations selling bad petrol('stretching' they call it .....#*%&*$£@ !) .
So if you're in Ireland for a driving holiday and you need to fill up with petrol.....use only the bigger branded stations.....avoid the smaller petrol outlets, 'tis not worth the risk !

I had a lil Citroen ZX Aura diesel auto 1994 that I paid £600 for (Ebay). I had that car for 7 years of trouble free motoring and ended up giving it to my friend Jean.

Erm... She didn't keep it long, she part exed it for her currant car, a Nissan !! (easier to get in and out of) But-- She did go to Cornwall in it a couple of times with no probs.

I bought my diesel as it was a bargain.... it was two years old when the guy traded it in for an x-type, had just over 30,000 miles on the clock and I bought it for £6500, it is a connie se and had everything I wanted. plus after doing my apprenticeship with MGR I knew a late Mk2 with one fuel pump, better cooling fan etc had much less to go wrong and time has proved me right as aside from the clutch it has nothing major in the 100k miles I have done.

over the years I have also had the Jap spec 2.5 auto and an MG ZT-T 2.5 160 which I also still have.

out of all the cars the one that I miss the most and I thought was the best driver was the 2.5 Jap spec, I really miss that car and think the car suited that powerplant beautifully.:-(
