Alternator Belts - Adjustments
My dads Rover 75 makes a whining noise almost constantly when he is driving it, not loudly, but loud enough to drive you mental. He popped into a garage today and they inspected it and said that it was the alternator belt?!?! Can this be adjusted by ourselves or is it a definate garage job?
The sound, sounds like it comes from the aircon but dad says its definately there when he turns it off! His is a V6 to. Anyone any ideas? |

To be honest, I have absolutely no idea without going to my car and looking around the belts for adjusters. Best wait until someone with definitive knowledge of this answers this one. I'm sure someone will be along soon.

The belt is auto adjuster type. Not overly complex to change but you will need a few more spanners than the old days.

Best of removing the belt, start the car and make sure the noises are gone.Bit tricky with no mounting on but is possible. While its off check all the pulleys for excess play and examine the belt ribs for missing segments or splits. While it is in bits your best of changing it then anyway.hth.
