ZT CDTi rattle
Hi,
I've posted before but I've narrowed the rattle to the following: 1. Only does it at a specific rpm - 800rpm ... yes 800 rpm not 1800! 2. Appears to becoming from the somewhere in/under the central console (the radio bit) I've been under today but cannot find anything loose. Its driving me mad - what else could it be? I've had the down pipe/cat/flexi bit replaced under warranty and zero difference. Any ideas? Thanks!! Last edited by e668ecp; 8th April 2007 at 18:17.. |

You should take a look at the "how-to" on stopping the "BCU rattle". There are several control boxes mounted under the dash which can knock together or against the bulkhead and amplify any chassis vibration. These sounds can be transmitted by the air ducts and appear to be coming from other locations. Application of padding will cure this.
Diesel vibrations tend to be greatest at around 1800 rpm. Was your post a typo? |

May be there is a screw loose on the underside engine cover? Or the gearbox linkage (try putting your hand on the gearstick)
Have you had a look under the car since the downpipe was done?

What i always do if i need to look under my car, go to your nearest tyre/exhaust centre and say you got a rattle from underneath and get it up on ramps, I do this all the time and they don't mind me getting under there with them and giving things a pull and checking things out with them.

Took the car to top notch ex Rover dealer in Ossett... namely Gledhills. They've found that the rattle is from the parts contained within the flexi-pipe. Now they say they can be removed and crimped together but its not worth the effort.. now what I am thinking of it to just squash the flexi pipe - is this a good idea or not?

I don't think squashing the Flexipipe would be a good idea in my opinon. The flexipipe is quite expensive for what it appears to be and if you should damage it then you'll be looking at a hefty bill to get it replaced.
What do they mean by "parts contained within the flexi-pipe"...? I was under the impression the flexipipe was just that, a bendy pipe. Not having a diesel I must admit to not actually having seen one so can someone fill me in on the details here... |
