Headlamp Protectors
Has anyone fitted headlamp protectors? Rimmers are selling them for £40-ish and I was thinking of getting some. Are they worth it?

What holds them in place Mike?
I didn't know anyone made them for fogs - did you get them from Rimmers? |

Simon, I'll dig out some pics and post them later. MGR made the fog ones as accessories also. I got the foglamp ones fitted when I bought the car- 3 years or more ago. Mike

Simon,
The protectors are easy to fit. At the bottom and top there are lugs that slip inside the headlamp surround. Difficult to photograph but I hope that the attached file is OK. (I've not done this before!) Colin Last edited by CFS75; 3rd December 2006 at 15:50.. |

Not to put anyone off, least not my prospective buyer, the reason I didn't get on with them is the fact that they do need to come off to clean properly and I was worried about scratching the paint on the bumper, though that is the least of my worries after 85k miles as stone chips have done far more damage (fortunately not to the lights). However, my initial reason for adding them to the spec list when I bought my car was that they came as part of a "Protection" racket, sorry, package which included floor mats, mudflaps, paint and interior seat cover protection and the headlamp covers - which in my naive way I thought might make my low-budget headlamps look a little more sexy.

There are special protector pads provided for use when you are putting the covers on or removing them. It is absolutely essential these are used and correctly otherwise you will chip paint and plastic out of your bumper around the lamps .

Protectors
Hi Simon. I fully agree with fitting them to the foglights (very neat) but I don't think they do anything to improve the looks when fitted to headlights. Rover w/shop had to lower bumper on one side to fit mine so not easy to remove for cleaning ! With the hard water here they were permanently marked on the inside with white spots and looked awful. Have now removed them. Headlights are 2 a penny on ebay if one gets broken. If they made them for the facelift they may be in one piece and neater.
