Default Tyre and wheel sizes

Hi- I am think of changing my 16" forked alloys with 215/55/16 tyres to 17" Meteors with 205/40/17 Avons. I dont think the speedo difference will be all that great but going from 55 to 40 profile I am wondering whether there is a possiblity of getting more road noise and possible less ride comfort -can anyone give me some advise on this

I have found that the Lower profile tyres do give a Harder ride dropping that far, and they did appear noisy but some tyres are more noisy than others, so you would have to check Tyre reviews.
I have been in someones car with 18" wheels that did this and much prefered the smaller wheel 16" or 17" standard tyre size.
Speedo will also be slightly out.
Others will no doubt have their own views.

The ride is harder on low profile tyres because you lose the resillience of the deeper walls. Low profiles also have stiffer walls I believe, which adds more to the harsher feel. Doing the simple maths, your speedo will be just over 99% accurate (reading faster than actual) compared with the standard reading.
