Default Why for £700

Why can I not find a serviceable caravan that sleeps 4 for £700 I know it's not a lot of money to some but to me it is all I get offered is rotting damp rubbish not wanting a show van and have realistic views on what my money will buy

I personally would stay in my full size old school Litchfield tent (70s canvas) but our autistic son hates tents now

Anyway rant over

There are a couple on Autotrader and eBay that look possible, though quite old?

I know of someone in the same boat. Reckoned that for a good choice of good caravans he ended up looking at 2000ish.

I just don't have that kind of cash but it's more the point of going to look at a not damp/rotbox van to find it is not worth the time or fuel

I gave up on caravanning because of the damp/rot problems, even on newer stuff. My dad bought a new van which ended up being "recapped" on the front, twice, due to water ingress!

Caravans are expensive to buy and hold there value for a long time, unless they have major issues, so £700 is just not a lot of money to invest in one.

If you are handy at fixing things up and have the time, find a local dealer who specialises in caravan insurance write off's. You will be surprised at what you can get from them, for not a lot of money. A lot of good caravans suffer minor damage and are then written off by the insurers, all you need do is look at what is available and what you feel confident you could repair. Actual damage can range from hailstone dents, to having suffered a tyre blowout and the plastic wheel arch broken, to complete sides ripped out and stolen recovered.

They are bought by the trade, for the trade to repair them in their workshops as time permits and at give away prices.

This sort of place - http://www.eycaravansalvage.com/

I paid a 1/4 list for my caravan with some side skin damage, windows damage and plastic damage. Its owner had managed to scrap it against a steel post. I spent a couple of hundred on parts to repair it, a few weeks pottering about to fix it. If done properly, a new entire side panel alone would have cost £2000, plus fitting.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Russ don't confuse cost with dryness. Many new caravans have damp that's found at the first, second, third, fourth and fifth annual service.

have you tried the caravan company https://www.thecaravancompany.com/dorset/
this branch weren't very good when I got mine from another branch but as it had manufacturers warranty there was less of a problem.

I think you will struggle to get a dry van for £700 so you may need to consider how much damp you will accept

I agree - Its the scrap price is that, usually the value of the fixtures, equipment and fittings.

Especially worth checking around private sales, rather than dealers.
