Pretty confident now to State that the New type ( dual use) mount from Matt and probably other sellers is no real improvement on the Yellow slotted Diesel powerflex mount I have installed in the Auto for the last few years.

Not managed to track down a Proper original style to compare at the moment , as I still have the foot tickling/floor buzzing vibration at 1900-2100 rpm under load .

Default Lower Engine Mount OEM vs Others.

Very shortly after purchasing the auto saloon last year, (having only driven 40 mile from place of purchase) I noticed the larger rubber on the teardrop engine mount was split so I fitted a new engine mount I had “in stock”.
However after changing the mount, there was a small, but noticeable shunt
A) when braking quickly (changing down gears).
B) when changing from D to N.
When viewed from underneath, it looked like the whole mount was being shunted about 3 or 4” towards the rear.
Changed the ATF, but made no difference.

I replaced the mount again today, with a 2nd hand power flex.
What struck me as odd, the mount removed today, has no complete central “bush”, and only really has a small bush / bearing surface at each side.
I’m surprised I never noticed it when fitting it originally, but hey ho.

Have driven the car a few mile this evening, and so far, I haven’t noticed the shunt again. Fingers crossed....

Hi Sean.
Do you still have the old mount you took off before you added the one with out the nylon centre? if so you can remove the nylon centre and the mount should be ok.

Is it a mount with the letter M stamped on it and a yellow dot or a letter T as in the photo below.

Maybe get back in touch with the seller and see if he can change it for one with the nylon centre ?

Hi Steve.
Yes, I do still have the old “original” mount that has a nylon centre.
Can I just drift out the nylon part?
I did give it a few (half hearted pathetic) taps with a screwdriver but it never budged.

The mount I fitted when I first purchased the car has no markings at all.
Although I have a fair idea where it was purchased, I couldn’t be 100% certain, so won’t bother going down the route of looking for a replacement.
It was just one mount thrown in with several other old ones, and I couldn’t be certain that I haven’t swapped some about on the other cars.🙄

Hi Sean
Yes drift it out but use a bolt or a socket that is the same size as the nylon centre it should come out quite easy then with damage.

Fwiw, I’ve rechecked and there were no markings on the rubber, of the removed mount, but it did show “BJS” on the casting.

Strangely I have another used / (rubber braking up) mount with the same markings, but it has the nylon insert.🤔
Both of the BJS mounts are noticeably more flexible than a T stamped mount, when levering the mount with a screwdriver through the centre.

Also see below the pitiful bearing collet, that I have removed at each side.

As suggested by Steve, I have removed these collets and replaced with a nylon bearing from another redundant mount.
Might be of some use in the future, but for now I’ll stick with the poly flex, cause it seems to have cured my autobox shunting problem.

Hi Sean.
I have suspicion that that mount is for a 1.8 so the rubber is not the right composite for a diesel.

I found a couple of the nylon bearing centres today in the shed pictured below.

Mondeo mounts if anyone wants to use one, but as already stated using one on a diesel the bracket would need dressing to suit, which is a job in it's self to remove and re-fit

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-MOND....c100005.m1851

they are perfectly fine for the 1.8. 2.0 &2.5 engines as the bracket is different.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.
