Thought I would like an S Type, and really did try as I bought 2 in quick succession, but they drove as old-fashioned as they looked! The X Type has grown on me, not least because of the 4 wheel-drive, the one feature I wish the 75/ZTs had, but my Daimler Super V8 and Series 3 Jaguar Sovereign take some beating. If only they weren't so thirsty!

My S Type was made in 1965. Now that was a well built car!

I had a Rover 25 before being forced to replace it earlier this year after a DHL van doing 30 driving on the wrong side of the road, around a blind corner shortened the engine compartment of my late 25 quite significantly. I bought a 75 as a replacement. The first time I rolled up at one of our branch offices in my 75 I parked side on to the office immediately next to the door as it was the only space readily available. The conversation when I walked in the door went like this... Reception: Sorry to hear about your car- the boss let you borrow his Jag? Me: No, that's my new car. Reception: <shocked look & stunned silence> Partner in charge of office: (dryly) We're obviously paying you too much. Me: It's a 17 year old Rover 75, cost me £800. Staff in chorus: What!? Receptionist: It certainly looks like a Jag. It ticked my sense of humour. |

In the earlier years of ownership of our diesel 75 we did get a few "is it a Jag" comments. It certainly had that similar look to the S Type.
When we replaced the diesel with an XF two years ago I compared it with the 75 and even now with my V6 75 sitting alongside the XF they don't look like there a decade between them. I still reckon the 75 is more comfortable than the XF but that extra power of the XF certainly gives it the edge. |

To my eyes the front of the S type looks better than the 75. It's much more stately and that, IMHO, is the whole point of classic styling.
The rear end shape of the 75 looks much better than the Jag and blends better with the overall styling. For me, the S type would be a step up from the 75 in terms of presence on th road. |

Apart from the styling of the rear; which is what most 75 drivers see as they try and keep up. |

The s type is not for me, the styling just doesn't work for me. The zt is far the better looker every day of the week and twice on sundays.
