Replacing tyre protectors?

I don't like the shape of my current tyre protectors. Should I consider to replace them? Or is mainly superficial rust?

If you can drop them off, give them a good clean up or get them shot blasted and protected, they will serve for a long long time. The material used is quite hardy stuff.
