Default Emergencey jockey wheel

Having recently had a puncture on the caravan jockey wheel I realised how completely stuck I would be if it happened when moving the caravan, I decided a spare was required.

Got a complete wheel at the car boot today for £2 but the hole in the middle for the spindle is a lot smaller then the one on the caravan.

Into garage and find some bar the right size for the forks that hold the jockey wheel. Into the lathe to turn it down for the wheel to fit.

Drill the end that was in the chuck and cut 1/2 inch off to save a bit of weight.

Turn down the other end of the new spindle so the bit I just cut off will slide on and act as a collar. Drill a hole for a split pin so the collar does not slide off and hey presto.

My lathe does not run true so the quality is poor but nevertheless it works and I chuffed
