Inline thermostat and coolant
Today I did nothing, however yesterday...
Due to the engine never really heating up properly I'd ordered the inline Renault 5 stat to install, as I believed the stat was sticking open. Having previously had blue anti freeze in the system, I drained the coolant and flushed the engine with clean water. During the cleaning process I put the diagnostic display on the dash. The engine stat appeared to be opening at about 71 C. I did this 3 times to clean all the blue out, the first 2 times the stat openend at about 71C the 3rd time it opened at 90C I managed to cut the band off the top hose with a mini disc cutter (LIDL's own Dremmel), and get the pipe off. A bit of lube, push hard and in it went Filled again with OAT pink antifreeze. This time it took forever to open the stats. Got up to 99C before the fan cut in and eventually the stat opened and I could bleed the system, it took so long i thought it would overheat. I took for a drive with the temperature display on, and the stat opened around 90C and stayed between 85-90 when hot. A satisfactory afternoons works. Hopefully now I may get few more mpg |

It's like using a bayonet. Stick it in until the deired effect happens then pull it out. Or were those instructions for something else?

Completely disorganised this year, I’ve normally serviced the car and looked over it in preparation for its mot. I put it in for its mot without any pre checks and it passed with two advisories, both front drop link gaiters cracked. I shouldn’t complain as they are the originals, no play in the joints either.

The Drop links:- get some new gaiters and fit and fill with Castrol CL grease. Last forever then.

Any links? I think I’d like to keep the genuine drop links than fit cheap rubbish

On Saturday I fitted a new shannon tube courtesy of Jules, then reset the engine timing (it was a tooth out).
Now to see whether that fixes or at least helps my cold running problem... |

took the rear spoiler off to get at the number plate lights, I know it had been off in the past as there's some paperwork for a previous repair, so it came off quite easily as the double sided tape wasn't doing anything.
The circuit board had previously been solder so suspect this has failed again, unfortunately the whole lamp assembly fell to bits so have ordered a complete new lamp assembly. Just need to order some new double sided tape for when I refit the spoiler. |
