I am planning to go over to Nick at Austin garage. I hope they are not too expensive.

Isn't that a solution to the thermostat stuck open and the engine not heating up? Mine is overheating and probably stuck closed.

Have a look at the thermostat, if it is the original, it is probably leaking and will need replacing anyway.

Stuck closed is very unusual, I would suspect an airlock before a closed stat.

An excellent idea, with only two small drawbacks...

His proper stat is seized closed - not open as is usually the case.
His proper stat won't open.

Now I do realise that, speaking technically that is only one small drawback - but thought that it was important enough to warrant two.

Feel free to ignore me (the bystander that butts in with the obvious comment), it was just too good an opportunity for that comment (Red Dwarf fans will recognise the style, I hope.)

Terry from TS Autos took a look at the entire system and did all sorts of flushing to remove debris and airlock. And then told me that I need to get a new thermostat.

have you felt at the top hose and rad are they getting hot if so then surely coolant is passing the thermostat so it can not be failed shut,if it has failed shut it is a rarery as they do not usualy fail shut.when the coolant is up to temp undo the bleed screw on hose near FBH, coolant should be coming out if not i would suspect a blocked rad.
