Anyone any ideas on how to disable Group Policy a conventional way? I looked into it but the Group Policy editor doesn't appear to have any settings relating to Windows Security Firewall nor does it seem to have any options that simply turn group policies on or off (which I guess is a non-starter as the nature of the different users means you have to have policies to define what each user can and can't do but now I digress and am complicating matters.....) |

I can't see why it would be activated on Home without being asked for?

This all sounds far too complicated than it needs to be.
Restore your pc to last week or before any registy changes were done. Get rid of Norton and download AVG (it's free and better) Download this and install it on all pc's you wish to network: http://www.globesoft.com/software_pr...p?productID=12 It's free and you don't have to disable firewall or mess about with anything silly - no headaches.

This would be the same group policy as I asked you about on page 2 of this thread?
Why do you think I asked silly? There is absolutely no way you have to play with the registry. Norton has f****d with your settings and is controlling your firewall via GP. Hit Start, RUN and type in gpedit.msc Compare the screen and each subsection to the machine that is allowing the firewall to work. Something will have (read, should have) changed in here. Alternatively (although I dont think it will work but worth the shot), open command prompt (start, run, type cmd). In black window type gpupdate then enter. Restart and tell us what happens. |

Right just to update.....
The group policy had never been an issue until yesterday. Up until that point I had managed to turn off both Norton & XP firewalls. I've rolled the machine back 6 weeks, and removed SP3 and still no joy. I'm trying MGO's latest suggestion......... If yhat fails, I'll take Norton off and try again, failing that I'll www.globesoft.com/software_pr...p?productID=12
