That's very interesting, and you do need some sort of mounting kit, as the unit is quite heavy.
The lugs are still, of course, on the side as per the 5 series, not on the top. This applies to both the bezel and the mounting kit.

Well done that man! It looks identical AND it's cheaper than the US one! Now all we need is someone who can speak German

In regards to the mounting kit, I always ondered what the score was there - do you need one as the highline unit I have is double din sized?

Phil, you answered my question by about 10 seconds of me posting!

Is there a Rover mounting kit available, as this is another major issue if we're wanting to fit a modern double din head unit?

This is the first time I have heard of a mounting kit. I had to have one made up. As far as I know there was nothing from MGR, otherwise there would have been a double din fascia plate as well.

Hmmm, and grrrr. Another pitfall... then again, whenever I've bought a single din head unit they've always come with a cage. I assume that the mounting kit is for the cage to slot into. How much did yours cost to have made up?

I don't really know as I had the head unit and sat nav installed by a specialist. It was all part of the installation which took them about 3 days.

Ouch 3 days at £40 per hour say 8 hour day, £960 sounds quite reasonable to me.

It was a bit less than half that, but I had digital TV and a reversing camera installed at the same time.
I don't think they were working solely on my car.

Incidentally, while I remember, once I got it back the wipers would sweep the screen once, every time I switched off the ignition. They fixed this by putting a diode in the line to stop it.

This is caused by having the permanent and switched 12 volts crossed over. No need for a diode - just swap the wires over.

So it sounds like the cost of £100 for a fascia is only the tip of the preverbial iceberg. In actual fact the cost of having a now affordable double din head unit could be close to doubled by a bit of plastic and a frame to hold it in place. Blimey!
